How to reach

Down south is a combination of Coastal areas which is located in the south coast in Sri Lanka. Kalutara, Bentota, Kosgoda, Hikkaduwa, Unawatuna, Ahungalla, Galle WeligamaMirissa, Dikwella ,Talpe,Tangalle are some of the areas. They can be reached using Sothern Express way or Galle road ( Marine Drive).The coastal areas have different seaside characteristics,but common to all is arrange of watersports, including diving. However Galle is an exception, dominated by one of the finest preserved Dutch forts in Asia

Down south consider as one of most famous tourist destination among travellers. It is small haven located in Sri Lanka. This haven consists with. gorgeous beaches, colonial townscapes, stilt fishermen, superb wildlife parks and Buddhist shrines and temples

Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery

The Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery was established in 1981 by the Wild Life Protection Society of Sri Lanka to protect its turtles from extinction. It is located in close proximity to tourist areas in Galle and surroundings. The Hatchery collects eggs and hatch them safely away from sea and land predators. Some people collect turtle eggs for consumption in this part of the beach and establishment of the Hatchery  has put an end to this. Thousands of turtles are released to the sea every year with the hope of increasing these endangered species .

Bentota

The best place to have a fun relaxed vacation enjoying the sun, sand and sea is Bentota, a coastal town in the Galle District, popular for the beautiful beaches. There are several hotels in Bentota with a beautiful view of the Indian Ocean, to suit all budgets. Bentota is a popular water sport destination with all facilities for diving, bodysurfing, jet skiing, windsurfing and parasailing. A river safari along the Bentota River and lagoon with the beautiful view of the pristine ocean will be a perfect romantic getaway. The turtle hatchery in Induruwa Beach, the Cinnamon Island and the Sri Kalyanarama Maha Viharaya are popular attractions in Bentota

Hikkaduwa

Hikkaduwa the popular tourist destination in Sri Lanka located along the southern coast is famous for the golden beaches. It has been a long time favourite spot for tourists as a place to enjoy the sun, sea and sand. Hikkaduwa is a paradise for water sports. It is one of the main surfing destinations in Sri Lanka. Snorkeling, scuba diving, boogie boarding are also popular water sports at Hikkaduwa.  Kite racing and windsurfing are also growing in popularity in recent times. Hikkaduwa is also famous for its corals. Glass Bottom Boat rides are very popular in the Hikkaduwa seas especially to see the beautiful corals and different types of fish.

Mirissa

Mirissa is situated on the south coast of Sri Lanka in the Matara District.  It is a fishing port and one of the island’s main whale and dolphin watching locations. Sri Lanka’s best and most stunning sunsets and sunrises could be witnessed on this small tropical sandy beach, The best and only boutique hotel on the southern beach of the country is also found here. It is a popular tourist destination due to its beach and night life activities. This area was badly affected during the 2004 tsunami.

 Whale watching

A session of Whale & Dolphins. The best time to spot Blue whales off the coast of Sri Lanka is between December and April. Mirissa is the best place to start your whale watching tour Harbor.

Here one boards an Indonesian fishing trawler restored for leisure cruising and sets sail for Weligama Bay where the giant mammals are known to cruise by. Guests can watch for whales and dolphins, do a spot of fishing with a hand line and have a picnic in a coconut-fringed cove.

The largest living animal on earth, Blue whales can grow up to 100 feet (30 meters) long and weigh almost 200 tons. They are among the Earth’s longest-lived animals with an average lifespan of around 80 to 90 years. When breathing, Blue whales emit a spectacular single-column spout up to 12 metres into the air. They also typically raise their shoulders and blowholes much higher out of the water than other big whales when surfacing to breathe. These two characteristics make Blue whale watching an incredible experience.

Tangalle

Tangalle is situated in the Southern province of Sri Lanka and is an important fishing port in the district  Natural treasures of this city are the bay fringed with palms and scenic coves. Some of the beaches have white sand and  ideal for swimming, diving and snorkeling. Most beaches are quiet and relaxing as it is not crowded in comparison to other southern beaches. The famous Mulkirigala rock temple is also found here. There are few natural caves in the vicinity of the temple which has various wall murals and buddhist statues.
